ABOUT HARRY PALMER

(born.1930, Calgary, Alberta, CANADA)

...... having a daiquiri sandwich at Los Cabos, Mexico, January 1, 2000 .....

.

I am a Canadian,
whose visual art and martial art evolved
after a thirty year career in engineering and business.

My work has been exhibited and collected internationally. I had the first solo exhibition at the Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography when it opened by the Governor General in 1992.

Three books of my work have been published.

The Tallpecs of Alberta & Saskatchewan, 2004 ... celebrating the centennials of Alberta and Saskatchewan.
125 Portraits (Companions of the Order of Canada ... Foreward by the Governor General), 1992
Calgary Places & People, 1983

Framed Tallpecs are seen below:

The Alberta 2005 Centennial Stamp uses three of my Alberta tallpecs.
Canada Post used one of my images (Anne Hébert, C.C.) in 2003.

In 2005 I was nominated for the inaugural Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Arts Awards.

In 2005 there were four of my "tallpec" scrolls on exhibition at the Whyte Museum in Banff and two more tallpecs were included in the 2005 Bow River exhibit at the Glenbow Museum.

In addition I have 200 large scrolls of all the images in The Tallpecs of Alberta & Saskatchewan. The scrolls are available for exhibition during the 2005 centennial activities. Perhaps you or your colleagues would know of an appropriate venue.

Legacy work in conventional photography was acquired in 1998
by the National Archives of Canada.
This work can be seen online at Harry Palmer Gallery
